Our internal team is made up of a diverse group of professionals with a wide range of expertise in nonprofit management, financial management, fund and donor development, economic development, program development, marketing, public relations, program evaluation, event management, and more.

Together, we aim to provide grant making, scholarship, leadership, and community investment programs and services of the highest quality to serve the citizens of Barberton.

Jim Stonkus, President & CEO

“Barberton isn’t just my hometown, it’s my passion.” Jim is a 1978 graduate of Barberton High School and a member of the Barberton High School Academic Hall of Fame. He has a degree in Natural Science (pre-med) from the University of Akron, and an MBA from Baldwin-Wallace College.

Jim has spent 28 years in the healthcare industry, including 12 years as the Regional Vice President of Business Development for the Southwest region of Summa Health System, a position that was based in Barberton. He has tremendous experience as a community liaison and organizer, working with community leaders to develop shovel-ready projects designed to grow, improve, and develop the community.

In addition to his extensive work experience and education, Jim has devoted much of his professional life to various community organizations, including: Tuscora Park Health & Wellness Foundation, Barberton Community Development Corporation, American College of Healthcare Executives, Barberton Community Health Clinic, Magic City Kiwanis, and the South Summit Chamber of Commerce.

Jane Litz, Chief Financial Officer

Jane joined the Foundation in November 2017 and is responsible for all things financial related to the Foundation. Jane joins us from Huntington/FirstMerit, where she served as a Vice President of Finance as well as Executive Director of the FirstMerit Foundation. In her work, she developed policies and procedures, administered treasury management, fund accounting and  regulatory compliance.

Jane is a Certified Management Accountant and earned a MBA and Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management degrees form the University of Akron. She currently serves as a board member at the Akron Zoo, and served as the capital campaign chair for the Zoo’s Mike & Mary Stark Grizzly Ridge expansion.

Debora Rolland, Vice President of Community Impact

Debby joined the team in December 2012 and manages the grant and scholarship programs for the Barberton Community Foundation. Her responsibilities include overseeing grants and scholarships for the Foundation and working with the Youth Philanthropy Committee (YPC). This mentoring initiative works to build the next generation of leaders in the community, one individual at a time.

Debby joined us from the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition with over 13 years of experience in the non-profit industry. She was Vice President of Operations & Development for the regional non-profit working on the development of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail. Debby has extensive experience in fundraising, development and grant making where she helped administer a trail and greenspace grant program for Summit County and its communities awarding over $1.5 million dollars for projects connecting communities to the Towpath Trail. Debby attended Kent State University and Walsh University where she majored in business/management.

Debby’s community involvement includes Vice Chair of the Barberton Kiwanis, board member of the Summit County Arts & Culture Board, Barberton Community Leadership Institute Class 3  and past CASA – Court Appointed Special Advocate. During her time away from the Foundation, she enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors and running on the Towpath Trail.

Amber Genet, Director of Marketing & Communications

Amber joined the team in September 2015 and has overall responsibility for the Foundation’s marketing strategy, including social media presence, brand management and communication functions.

She joins BCF from Westfield Insurance, where she served as a corporate event planner coordinating event logistics, project management, facilitation, design and execution. Combined with other postilions held, she brings 12 years of communication and event experience to her position with the Barberton Community Foundation.

Amber earned her graduate degree in Communications and her undergraduate degree in Public Relations & Business Communication from The University of Akron. She has been recognized with the Greater Akron Chamber’s 30 For the Future, Summit Historical Society’s Woman of the Year in Creativity and South Summit Chamber’s Community Leader of the Year.

She is a board member at United Disability Services Akron and Past-President of Downtown Akron Partnership Emerging Leaders. Currently, she is in Leadership Akron’s “Core 34” Signature Class. She is a graduate of Torchbearers Class of 2010 and Barberton Community Leadership Institute Class 2. Amber also serves on multiple event committees and is a member of local organizations throughout Northeast Ohio.

Carlina Croston, Administrative Assistant

Carlina joined our team in December 2017. She is originally from Goodyear Heights in Akron, but has been spending time in Barberton since childhood. She especially enjoys visiting Barberton for the MumFest and Cherry Blossom Festivals. She is currently pursuing her degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Akron.

Carlina is actively serving in the Ohio Army National Guard, as an Information Technology Specialist. Prior to serving, she worked for Walt Disney World Resorts in the Entertainment Department. She is the office “techy” and is a self-starter. She is constantly bringing perspective to our current workflow and suggesting process improvements.

In her spare time, she enjoys going to farmers markets, running with her dog and spending time with her goddaughter.
