Rudy was a Barberton football coach, science teacher, and Athletic Director. Until this 2023 season, Sharkey was Barberton’s all-time leader in football coaching wins with 71 victories in 11 seasons. He is recognized in the Barberton Sports Hall of Fame, Summit County Sports Hall of Fame, and the Ohio High School Coaches Hall of Fame.
The Sharkey family honors Rudy and Millie’s legacy of a true teacher and coach’s passion for sportsmanship and life-long learning. The scholarship makes its first award this year to two Barberton High School seniors who display leadership, determination, and teamwork through BHS athletics.
Established by the Stefan family and in memory of Gayle and Lawrence Lightner, this fund benefits nonprofits that work with issues and programs related to domestic violence, financial literacy, health, and wellness.
This fund aims to improve the quality of life of Barberton residents through acts of charity to help meet the needs of the poor.
The mission of Stewart’s Caring Place: Cancer Wellness Center is to provide a caring, relaxed environment offering supportive services and programs at no cost for individuals and families touched by cancer. When you or a loved one are on the cancer journey, Stewart’s Caring Place will help you through it. This fund helps support services at no charge to Barberton area residents.
