2018 Greynolds Classic

December 7 – Classic Tipoff Breakfast
Sponsored by Summa Health
Dec. 8 – Greynolds Classic – Barberton
Legendary Barberton High School basketball coach Jack Greynolds passed away in January 2005.
For nearly 18 years, Coach Greynolds struggled with devastating side effects from a stroke. He
was a fighter with a never-say-die attitude, demonstrated by the performance of his teams and
the way he lived his life.
After his death, a high school boys’ basketball event was started to honor his legacy and to raise
money to increase the awareness of stroke prevention and to help the youth of Barberton. The
inaugural K. Jack Greynolds Memorial Classic was conducted in December 2005.
Since that time, the Classic has entertained thousands of high school basketball fans. The Classic
has provided a venue for many players to demonstrate their skills and $205,000 has been donated
to our community. Proceeds from the Classic benefit youth programs and equipment as
well as stroke education in our community.
This year’s Summa Health Tipoff Breakfast will be December 7, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. at Summa Barberton Hospital. 155 Fifth Street NE., Barberton, Ohio 44203. Please park in the parking deck.
Enter at the main entrance and go to the Barberton Community Foundation Conference Center.
This program is making a difference in our community! We would like to invite you to help us
continue to recognize what Jack Greynolds did for our school and community during his
coaching tenure and to honor his true legacy, the many life lessons he taught us.

Barberton Poised to Become a Walkable & Bikeable Community

Barberton Poised to Become a Walkable & Bikeable Community

Barberton, OH – February 14, 2017

The Barberton Community Foundation (BCF) is pleased to announce three bike friendly initiatives to receive funding in 2017. Projects include a bike share, Switching Gears Conference and Better Block event for a total of $32,000. These coupled with the Magic Mile show that the City of Barberton continues to make great strides towards becoming a walkable and bikeable community.

The bike share will look to build upon the program that was piloted in Akron last year. The Barberton bike share program will have three stations, each equipped with four bikes, helmets and locks. Bicycles can be borrowed at no cost, for up to three hours at a time and must be returned by end of business day. A photo ID and filing of a waiver will be required to participate. Locations are being finalized. This program is expected to rollout early summer.

Switching Gears is an Active Transportation Conference hosted by the Akron Metropolitan Area Transit Study (AMATS). Attendees will learn groundbreaking techniques on how to promote walking, biking and transit use in their communities and how to create vibrant neighborhoods. The conference will be hosted in Barberton on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 and feature speakers Jason Roberts of Better Block and Charles Marohn of Strong Towns.

The third project is the creation of Barberton Better Block. The Foundation has provided the funding to bring a Better Block to 2nd Street. The event, supported by many community partners, will take place on July 28 & 29, 2017. Better Block is a community development demonstration tool that rebuilds an area using grassroots efforts to show the potential to create a great walkable, bikeable, lively, neighborhood center. A community input meeting will be held on March 2, 2017 at the Active Adult Center from 6-8pm.

Please visit or call 330.745.5995 if you would like to learn more about the bike friendly initiatives happening in Barberton in 2017.
