(December 13, 2018, Barberton, Ohio) – Suzanne Allen, Ph.D., is joining the Barberton Community Foundation as its next leader and Executive Director, leaving her post as President and CEO of Philanthropy Ohio where she has served the community of philanthropy throughout Ohio.

Suzanne has an impressive history of effective service within the nonprofit world, serving the past six years as leader of Philanthropy Ohio, a statewide membership organization dedicated to leading and equipping philanthropic organizations across Ohio to be effective and powerful agents of change within their communities.

Prior to her appointment with Philanthropy Ohio, Suzanne was Vice President for Development and Donor Services for the Akron Community Foundation. During her career Suzanne has held teaching, senior fundraising, and leadership positions with several universities, and has served as a private consultant helping clients in the nonprofit and academic sectors across the country.
“On behalf of our entire Board of Directors, we are excited to welcome Dr. Suzanne Allen,” said Michael Chisnell, Barberton Community Foundation Board Chair. “Her track record of leadership and excellence within our nonprofit community makes her one of the most accomplished philanthropic professionals in Ohio.”

“She joins us already understanding the Barberton community from her past work,” Chisnell added. “She has experience with the Collective Impact Model – our newly adopted strategic plan, which highlights partnering with other organizations to leverage more resources and dollars. We are confident that this plan, when matched with Suzanne’s expertise, will help maximize Barberton’s potential.”

“Having met the board and read the new strategic plan, it is clear that the Foundation and the Barberton community are poised for growth – and it is very inspiring!” Suzanne said. “Barberton is clearly focused on making sure its community is well educated and residents are happy, healthy and safe, with an opportunity for a good career.”

Suzanne has been recognized by the Columbus Business First newspaper as one of the area’s “People to Know in Not-for-profits,” as well as by Northern Ohio Live magazine as an Athena Awards finalist. She is a former board member of the Alumni Board of Leadership Akron and the Northeast Ohio chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).The Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio recognized Suzanne as a “2015 Woman of Distinction,” and her alma mater, Columbus State University, honored her with the “2015 Excellence in Alumni Achievement Award.”

Suzanne currently lives in Fairlawn with her husband, Mitch, of 35 years, her dog and cat, Bogart and Bacall, and is the proud grandmother of Anderson and Tre.

Suzanne joins the Foundation at the same full time annual salary as the previous Executive Director and will begin her tenure on March 4, 2019, as the Barberton Community Foundation embarks on a new pathway forward, intently focused on maximizing the good it can do for the residents of the City of Barberton and the students within the Barberton City School District.

“We have made great progress as a Board in 2018 to establish strong and well-governed financial and granting processes while building a strategic plan that will position Barberton to maximize even more resources available to communities like ours,” Chisnell said. “Suzanne is the ideal leader to help our community access those resources, engage partnerships, and supercharge the growth and prosperity of our Magic City.”
